We arrived in Angers, France on Saturday evening after some minor train delays and schlepping of the bike and bags from Orléans. We’re staying in a small apartment built recently in the rear of the courtyard of an house built in the 1800s along a quiet street in the city center.
Angers has been voted the best city in France to live in three times, and so far, we can see why. It has a relaxed vibe, a vibrant and youthful culture, and affordable housing prices. Did I mention that it has its own English-language lending library that also acts as a community gathering place helpful to new English-speaking visitors? Can’t wait to visit this week!

As we’ve started to explore, we came across this beautiful old half-timber building (above) in a town square. The architecture in the city is really nice (see the art deco Blue House and the Castle of Angers) and the city is sparkling clean. We had lunch Sunday at a food hall that had all sorts of vendors, foods, drinks, and desserts spread out around community tables.
Greg rode his bike around the city today and through some of the many lovely parks the city has to offer. We’ve taken some bus rides and are taking the tram NW tomorrow for lunch. So far, we’re enjoying Angers very much and can’t wait to learn more.
