A Saturday Market Day Haul

Posted by Michelle

We visited the Saturday Market again today, with the intention of actually buying things to make to eat. What a haul we made!

Right away, I used the English cucumber, tomatoes, kalamata olives, and some of the feta we bought for a salad, with some vinaigrette dressing I bought at the grocery store. Everything was so fresh and flavorful!

We bought from several vendors and here’s what else we brought home:

  • 4 apples
  • 2 almond croissants
  • 1 baguette
  • 1 baguette filled and baked with ham and cheese
  • 1 brownie/caramel/peanut bar dessert
  • 2 baking potatoes
  • 1 bag of fingerling potatoes
  • 1 pound of strawberries

I think we might have spent about €25 euros (about $28). We’ve been practicing using our French more, starting with “Je parle un peu Français” (I speak a little French). This seems to work well in that they expect very little from us and then are pleasantly surprised or they offer to speak English, if they can. We’re making it work and continue to encounter kind, helpful people wherever we go.

Happy weekend to you!
