Living in Angers, France

Who Wants a $55+tip breakfast?!?!

Posted by Michelle

Every once in a while, we like to go out for a good breakfast. There’s a place called Omelette Express in Santa Rosa (California) that is a community staple for a good breakfast, brunch, and lunch and we’ve been eating there for years. Santa Rosa is where the Peanuts cartoonist, Charles Schulz, is from and there are a lot of Peanuts-themed statues around town, including right out in front of the restaurant:

I forgot to take a picture of today’s breakfast before I started eating, but it’s a decent-sized, proper omelette with the best home fries and a slab of fresh baked sourdough. YUM!

Breakfast for two, including coffee, was $55 this morning, BEFORE the tip. No upcharges for bacon, no gourmet add-ons, just two breakfast plates and black coffees. I don’t want to be that person complaining about “how much everything costs these days,” but that is mind-blowingly expensive for breakfast. Using quality ingredients and employing a great staff are expensive, but just WOW.

We’re enjoying some things about being in the U.S. like spicy food and speaking our native language, although we keep answering questions with “oui” instead of “yes,” and have to stop ourselves from automatically saying “bonjour” to people we see out and about, but we are also missing France. Looking forward to getting back to Angers on Friday to start our language classes and get involved in fall community events!
